Blake Breakdown: Debate Edition
PHOENIX — Welcome to the latest edition of the ‘Blake Breakdown’ — a weekly roundup of the latest news on Blake Masters, the “fringe,” “extreme,” and “dangerous” Republican nominee for U.S. Senate.

Known for his divisive rhetoric, far-right positions, and Twitter temper tantrums, Masters is a risk Arizonans cannot afford. From now until November 8th, the Arizona Democratic Party’s ‘Blake Breakdown’ is here to help you keep track of the latest reason why he has no business serving in the U.S. Senate.

Here’s what you missed this week:
Pre-Debate: Everybody Hates Blake

BLAKE HAS WOMEN PROBLEMS”: Ahead of the debate, Republican Arizona women crossed party lines and held a press conference condemning Blake Masters and his support for nationalizing Arizona’s pre-statehood law outlawing abortion without exceptions for rape or incest. Given Masters’ overwhelmingly unpopular and undeniably harmful position on abortion plus his comments rationalizing the gender pay gap and mocking women who chose not to have children, it’s no wonder he’s struggling with Arizona women voters across the political spectrum.

HOMETOWN (ANTI)HERO: Just hours ahead of the debate, the Arizona Mirror reported that 75 of Blake Masters’ former teachers and classmates wrote a scathing letter condemning Masters’ candidacy and character, warning that he wants to “lead Arizona down a dark, dystopian path.” The letter landed in his hometown paper on Saturday, ensuring that everyone in Tucson spent the weekend reading all about how Masters peaked in high school.

During the Debate: Liar, Liar, Pants on Fire

2020 CONSPIRACY (THE REMIX): After a year of saying “I think Trump won in 2020,” Masters tried to hide his lies and conspiracies around the 2020 election on the debate stage. Instead, he pivoted to a strange, long-winded, fantastical conspiracy theory about a laptop and a Big Tech x “Big Media” x FBI collaboration to rig the 2020 election against his endorser, Donald Trump — all before admitting that he’d never seen any real evidence of electoral fraud. Either way, he’s still the same Master(s) ManipulatorTM, willing to say anything to scrounge up a vote.

WE ALL KNOW GUYS LIKE THIS: At this point, Masters is running from everyone — including himself. Thanks to copious amounts of audio and video, pretty much everyone in Arizona has seen Masters, in his own words, call abortion “demonic” and advocate for his plan to institute a national ban without exceptions. And yet, still, Masters spent Thursday night running from his words and lying about his deeply unpopular and objectively dangerous plan to rip away Arizona women’s right to make their own health care decisions.

Post-Debate: The Circus Comes to Town

WITH FRIENDS LIKE THESE: Finally, a general election event where Blake can be himself! Yesterday, Masters headed to Mesa to rally alongside Donald Trump and Marjorie Taylor Greene – two of his greatest (read: only) “friends” and supporters. Back in the “bitter” GOP primary, Peter Thiel bought his protégé a seat at the Mar-A-Lago adults table, landing him the former president’s endorsement. That, plus the support of notorious antisemite Marjorie Taylor Greene and Neo-Nazis everywhere helped Blake scrounge up enough support from MAGA Republicans to crawl out of his primary on top. For one afternoon only, Blake got to be his true self, dusting off the MAGA hat that he’s been hiding since August 3rd and living his authentic life.
