Republican Rampage on Roe: Lamon Edition

PHOENIX — This week, we’re breaking down the Arizona GOP Senate primary candidates’ war on Roe v. Wade and outlining exactly how out of touch each of these candidates are when it comes to Arizonans’ access to reproductive care. After overviewing Brnovich and Masters’ anti-choice agendas earlier this week, now we’re turning to Utah-resident Jim Lamon.
Alabama native and Utah resident Jim Lamon has pledged $50 million of his own money to run for Senate in a state where the majority of folks disagree with his out-of-touch stance on reproductive rights. So far in this primary, he’s proven his commitment to ripping away abortion rights for millions of Arizonans by:

  • Celebrating the restrictive Mississippi abortion ban and applauding states that “have tried to circumvent or negate” the Roe v. Wade ruling.
  • Arguing that “we owe [it] to our fellow Americans” to run contrary to overwhelming public opinion and restrict abortion access.
  • Touting the 2021 Texas abortion ban — which took reproductive rights away from millions of Texans overnight — as a victory for states’ rights.
  • Explicitly promising to bring his anti-choice agenda with him to the Senate.

“With his house in Utah, it’s no wonder Jim Lamon’s views on access to reproductive care are so out of touch with Arizonans,” said ADP spokesperson Hannah Goss. “Lamon can continue to write himself as many $1 million checks as he wants, but all of the self-funding in the world will never fix the fact that he’s an out-of-touch out-of-towner with little to no sense of what Arizonans actually want.”
