Anti-Arizona: #AZSen Candidates Are Running to Ban Abortion
PHOENIX — This week, as we near the end of the “bloody” and “bitter” GOP Senate “primary fight,” the ADP is taking a step back from the usual chaos to break down the field’s dangerous policy positions and outline exactly why these “decidedly weak” candidates would be so harmful for Arizonans.
Yesterday, we outlined their plans to dismantle Social Security, and now we’re turning to their dangerous, out of step plans to ban abortion. Despite the fact that the overwhelming majority of Arizonans support the right to safe and legal abortion, the field has celebrated the repeal of Roe v. Wade and repeatedly pushed to totally eliminate access for Arizonans.
Blake Masters:

  • Supports a national abortion ban with no exceptions for rape or incest;
  • Encouraged National Republicans to “go on offense” to squash states’ rights and end abortion access entirely; and
  • Announced his opposition to the Supreme Court decision making birth control legal in this country.

Mark Brnovich:

  • Effectively ended abortion access in Arizona by arguing the pre-statehood law criminalizing abortion and mandating jail time for providers should be enforced; and
  • Has long been criticized for “playing politics” and ripping away abortion access from Arizona women in a desperate and not-so-subtle ploy to attract far-right support.

Jim Lamon:

  • Supports a ban on abortion even in cases of rape or incest and celebrated the overturning of Roe v. Wade; and
  • Recently expressed his support for Arizona’s pre-statehood ban criminalizing abortion and jailing doctors.

The bottom line: All three GOP Senate primary candidates are running to ban abortion, a dangerous plan that would impact millions of Arizonans.
