ARIZONA -– In this episode of The Lake Tapes, Kari Lake is facing scrutiny over her lies about her position on abortion.
Lake has a long record of backing a ban on abortion without exceptions for rape and incest, celebrating the fall of Roe, describing abortion as an “execution,” and supporting a ban on medication abortion.
Roll the tape for Kari Lake’s real record on abortion…
Michael Steele: “Republican Kari Lake is changing her tune on abortion. In an exclusive interview with NBC News, the Arizona Senate candidate now making the claim that she opposes a federal abortion ban and does not support a near-total ban in Arizona. You already told us who you are, Kari. Stop lying. You know, if you get to the Senate, you know what you’re voting for […] You know, at least be honest with Arizonans and let them know where you really stand.
Kari Lake: “I’m incredibly thrilled that we are going to have a great law that’s already on the books. I believe it’s ARS 13-3603. So it will prohibit abortion in Arizona except to save the life of a mother. And I think we’re going to be setting the– paving the way and setting course for other states to follow.”
Kari Lake: “I am 100% pro-life. I think the Supreme Court did a very smart thing. They righted a 50 year wrong. They corrected a 50 year wrong. […] It is not in the Constitution as a right. And it was it was wrong that they set it up that way. So thankfully, we got that fixed. And Arizona will not be a state where we’re taking the lives of our unborn.”
Kari Lake: “So I would very much support banning those types of abortion pills.”
Kari Lake: “I am 100% pro-life […] It is the execution of our most innocent. And that is what it is, pure and simple.”
Kari Lake: “I haven’t changed, actually. No.”
Here’s a reminder of Kari Lake’s views on abortion which she recently said “haven’t changed, actually:”
- Lake said, “I’m pro life, I believe life begins at conception.”
- Before Roe v. Wade was overturned. Lake said, “I joined Congressman Gosar in praying for God’s guidance to the Supreme Court and an end to this national disgrace created under Roe v Wade.”
- She said she is “100% pro-life,” and believes that there should be no federal right to an abortion, and that the Dobbs decision “corrected a 50 year wrong.”
- She is “incredibly thrilled” about Arizona’s 1864 “draconian” territorial ban on abortion which has no exceptions for rape or incest.
- She believes that abortion is “not health care,” that it is a “sacrifice” and an “execution.”
- She doesn’t believe in “any” abortions and supports the Texas abortion ban that allows for abortion “bounty hunters” and has put women’s lives in danger.
- She believes that an abortion is “not a medical choice.”
- She believes in “banning those types of abortion pills” in reference to medication abortions.
