REMINDER: Blake Masters Supports Federalizing Arizona’s Pre-Statehood Abortion Ban
Whether the 1864 or 2022 Abortion Ban Becomes Law in AZ, Masters Has Already Called to Take Both Nationwide
PHOENIX — In the coming days, the Pima County Superior Court will decide which restrictive abortion law will be in place in Arizona following the overturning of Roe v. Wade: a pre-statehood abortion ban that criminalizes abortion without exceptions for rape or incest and mandates jail time for doctors, or a recently-passed 15-week abortion with no exceptions for rape or incest.
While both abortion bans are overwhelmingly unpopular and undeniably dangerous for Arizona women, that’s not enough for Blake Masters who has told Arizonans he wants to go on “offense” on this issue and supports implementing both bans nationally.
- 2022 Abortion Ban: Blake Masters has already gone on record in support of Arizona’s recently-passed 15-week abortion ban. And just last week, Masters endorsed a federal version of Arizona’s restrictive 15-week ban as well:
-
- AP: In Arizona, Republican Senate candidate Blake Masters described abortion as “demonic” during his GOP primary, calling for a federal personhood law that would give fetuses the same rights people have after they’re born. […] “Of course, I support Lindsey Graham’s 15-week bill, and I hope it passes,” Masters said this week.
- 1864 Abortion Ban: Last year, Masters came out in support of nationalizing the century-old ban, an effort that would push one of the nation’s most restrictive abortion bans on American women everywhere:
-
- Washington Post: Asked last year on One America News if he would support a national ban similar to an Arizona law dating back to the 1800s that “bans all abortions,” Masters said yes.
The bottom line: Whichever way the Pima County judge rules, Blake Masters is running to further restrict abortion access for women in Arizona and beyond. His clear, documented intention to implement a national abortion ban illustrates that he is a risk Arizonans simply cannot afford.
