REMINDER: Arizona Republicans Opposed Expanding Child Tax Credit

ARIZONA- Today, Arizona Democratic Party Chair Yolanda Bejarano released the following statement on Republicans’ opposition to expanding the Child Tax Credit:

“When the Biden-Harris administration and Arizona Democrats secured the enhanced Child Tax Credit, child poverty was cut in half. Despite this being the single largest tax cut for working Arizona families in generations, every single Arizona Republican voted against it. Arizona Republicans’ decision to oppose the extension of that expanded tax credit has now chipped away at this progress. MAGA Republicans are hellbent on rigging the economy for the top one percent and leaving working families behind. Meanwhile, President Biden, Vice President Harris, and Arizona Democrats are fighting to continue building an economy that works for Arizona families.”

Here’s a look at how MAGA Republicans fought against expanding the Child Tax Credit:

Every single Republican in Congress voted against legislation to expand the Child Tax Credit — which led to a historic drop in child poverty.

ABC News: “Included in the 628 pages of the American Rescue Plan is a change that experts say will prove to be a ‘historic’ step in reducing child poverty. The proposal calls for a one-year expansion in both the value and scope of the child tax credit to American families, something some studies estimate could lift millions of children out of poverty.”

“But even for Republicans, the measure did not prove to be a sticking point in partisan negotiations over the bill — which still did not get a single Republican vote in the House or Senate.”

Arizona Republicans sided with MAGA extremists in Congress in opposing legislation that expanded the Child Tax Credit.
