Reminder: Arizona Republican Senate Primary Field Supports Dangerous Abortion Bans 

ARIZONA -– Today’s one year anniversary of Senator Lindsey Graham’s introduction of a dangerous national ban on abortion is a stark reminder that the GOP Senate primary field supports banning abortion with no exceptions for rape or incest.

“Whether it’s Blake Masters calling abortion ‘demonic,’ Kari Lake saying it’s an ‘execution,’ or Mark Lamb celebrating the overturning of Roe, the GOP Senate primary field supports a dangerous abortion ban with no exceptions for rape or incest,” said Olivia Taylor-Puckett, Senior Communications Advisor at the Arizona Democratic Party.

Here’s a reminder on where the candidates stand:

Blake Masters supports a dangerous plan to institute a national abortion ban, going so far as to call for a federal law that would result in jail time for women who seek essential health care. 

• Masters calls abortion “religious sacrifice” and “demonic.”
• Before the Dobbs decision was issued, Masters said “Roe v. Wade needs to be repealed yesterday.”
• When asked if he supports a national ban on abortion, Masters said “of course.”
• Masters does not support exceptions for rape or incest.
• Masters described himself as “100% pro-life.”

Kari Lake supports total bans on abortion with no exceptions for rape, incest, or to save the life of the mother and supports throwing doctors in prison for providing health care services. 

• Before Roe v. Wade was overturned. Lake said, “I joined Congressman Gosar in praying for God’s guidance to the Supreme Court and an end to this national disgrace created under Roe v Wade.”
• Lake said “abortion is the ultimate sin,” that it is an “execution.”
• Lake said “I would very much support banning those types of abortion pills,” in reference to medical abortions, which have been proven safe.
• When asked about the Texas abortion ban, an extreme law that allows for abortion “bounty hunters,” Lake said, “I will sign that in a heartbeat.”
• “I’m 100% pro-life and I’d like to see, I’d like to see no abortions…”

Mark Lamb celebrated the overturning of Roe, suggested abortion was not a women’s rights issue, and complained maternal health is over prioritized.

• Lamb has historically run on an “anti-abortion rights platform” with promises to “protect all stages of human life, from conception to natural death.”
• Lamb shared memes likening abortion to murder.
• When the Dobbs decision was issued, Lamb celebrated the fall of Roe.
• Lamb suggested that abortion is not a “women’s rights” issue, and complained that mothers and their health are over prioritized.
