Key Legislation for Arizonans Supported by President Biden

ARIZONA– Last week, the Senate passed legislation extending the Radiation Exposure Compensation Act (RECA) which would expand compensation for downwinders across rural Arizona and for Tribal communities.

“This is an incredibly important policy that some of our most vulnerable communities depend on to get the medical care they need. For too many Arizonans, this is a life-line we cannot risk losing. President Joe Biden and Arizona Democrats are fighting for this important policy because we are on the side of working people.”

Thousands of Arizona families have been impacted by mid-century nuclear testing, often resulting in families suffering from cancer for generations. Arizona downwinders, including those in Mohave County, who have been left out of the program, would now be eligible for up to $100,000 in compensation.

The legislation has been championed by President Biden and will now go to the House.
