NEW: Arizona Democratic Party Condemns Kari Lake For Co-Signing Giuliani’s Racist ‘Dirty Trick’ to Suppress Hispanic Vote

ARIZONA – Today, after failed Republican gubernatorial candidate Kari Lake co-signed a racist voter suppression tactic used by disgraced former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani, the Arizona Democratic Party released the following statement: 

“It’s no surprise that Kari Lake is fond of using racist ‘dirty tricks’ to win elections. Her party pulled out all the stops in 2020 and 2022 and still lost Arizona—not that she has accepted it.”

“While it’s increasingly clear that Kari Lake and the GOP would like to take us backwards, we are never going back.”

“There is no place for hate or voter suppression in Arizona.” 

This week, Kari Lake appeared alongside Steve Bannon, the far-right activist and founder of Breitbart, on Rudy Giuliani’s YouTube show “America’s Mayor Live,” which was live-streamed from his apartment in Palm Beach, Florida. During the program, Kari Lake and the group repeated her debunked claim that she won the 2022 Arizona gubernatorial election, trafficked in racist dog whistles, and agreed that Trump’s election was the result of “divine providence.” 

But in addition to their typical incoherent rambling, Giuliani explained “one little dirty trick” he used to “[keep] down the Hispanic vote” so that Republicans could win in New York. “We need dirty tricks,” exclaimed Lake, as she laughed along.    

Giuliani’s “dirty trick”: Send Republican operatives to the heavily Hispanic neighborhood of East Harlem to scare prospective voters with the threat of officers from Immigration and Naturalization Services picking up Hispanic-Americans not carrying green cards at polling sites. And when threatened with legal action for civil rights violations from the Department of Justice, Giuliani (wrongfully) told his lawyer “they don’t have civil rights.”
