National GOP and Kari Lake In Lock Step on Abortion Ban

As Republicans Call for Nationwide Ban On Abortion, Lake Stands By Her Radical Positions

PHOENIX– As Lindsey Graham has unveiled a radical plan to push a nationwide ban on abortion, Kari Lake has been consistently doubling down on her anti-abortion stances. Lake has proudly branded herself as the anti-choice, anti-abortion candidate in her campaign for governor, and has not wavered from her extreme positions.

Unlike other candidates who have tried walking back their radical positions, Kari Lake is barreling ahead with her anti-abortion stances. The most recent example of that came in a tweet where Lake referred to people who support and seek abortion care and those that help them as “executioners.” Lake has even said abortion is “murder”. As the Arizona Republic reported, “Lake has not budged from her staunch opposition to abortion,” despite a majority of Arizonans supporting access to abortion and it becoming a top issue in this election.

“In a state like Arizona, where people believe strongly in personal freedom, Lake and Washington Republicans’ sinister plan to ban abortion is not going to play well in November,” said Josselyn Berry, spokesperson for the Arizona Democratic Party. “Banning abortion nationwide has always been and remains the Republican agenda, and ending abortion altogether is their goal. If Kari Lake becomes governor, she will absolutely support and enforce the ban, endangering the lives of Arizonans and threatening doctors with jail time. Meanwhile her opponent Katie Hobbs has been and always will be a staunch supporter of reproductive freedom.”

A reminder on Kari Lake’s unwavering support for a total  abortion ban:

She responded to the SCOTUS decision overturning Roe by saying she supports the 1901 Arizona law  criminalizing abortion and celebrated it again as a “great law” during a forum in February. In a July Republican primary debate, Lake unequivocally stated her support for Arizona’s Civil War era abortion ban that effectively outlaws abortion and requires prison time for doctors, saying she would support and enforce it. And shortly after becoming the GOP nominee for governor, Lake dodged a question from a reporter asking if she would advocate for “more restrictive abortion laws.”

She’s said “I am pro-life 100%. I’m against abortion,” opposing exceptions for rape and incest and the life of the woman. When asked if she supported exceptions for rape and incest, Lake said, “I don’t believe that any child should be killed in a mother’s womb” and that “abortion is the ultimate sin.” In a June interview on Fox News and in the GOP primary debate, Lake also said she supports banning abortion pills.
