ICYMI: 12News Fact Checks TV Ad Underscoring Kari Lake’s Extreme Record
Spoiler Alert: Her Radical Stances on Abortion, Rocket Launchers and Spying On Our Children Are True
PHOENIX– Yesterday 12News fact checked the Arizona Democratic Party’s first television ad that highlights Kari Lake’s extreme record on abortion, rocket launchers and spying on children in the classroom and found the claims to be true. The ad titled “Too Dangerous,” focuses on Kari Lake’s extreme, fringe record on everything from abortion to guns. The ad leads with Lake’s extremist stance on abortion and how she doesn’t support exceptions for rape or incest.
CLAIM: Abortion
“Lake wouldn’t just ban abortion, she’d criminalize it.” The ad said. 12News can verify Kari Lake does support Arizona’s territorial ban on abortions.
Lake is an Abortion Radical Against Exceptions and Supports Criminalizing Doctors–Lake has said she is 100% pro-life, opposes exceptions for rape incest, and the life of the mother, and has referred to abortion as murder. When asked if she supported exceptions for rape and incest, Lake said: “I don’t believe that any child should be killed in a mother’s womb” and that “life is sacred and you don’t mess with what God wants.” Lake backs Arizona’s pre-statehood, century-plus-old abortion ban, which does not have exceptions for rape or incest, and criminalizes providers who perform abortion punishable by two to five years in prison.
CLAIM: Rocket Launchers
“So radical, she would even legalize rocket launchers.” The ad says. In an email to 12News, Lake’s campaign reiterated her support of the Second Amendment and rocket launchers.
Lake Is An Extreme Supporter Of Guns, Even Dangerous Weapons Like Rocket Launchers–Lake has pledged not to sign any new gun safety legislation in Arizona if elected governor, and in fact she wants to roll back what already exists in the state. Lake opposed red flag laws, which help keep guns from domestic abusers. One of Lake’s few concrete policy proposals is a plan to eliminate the sales tax for gun and ammo purchases, making deadly weapons cheaper to purchase. In a video, Lake said she would even legalize ownership of rocket launchers claiming the right to bear arms under the second amendment.
CLAIM: Cameras in Classrooms
“And Lake wants to politicize our schools by using cameras to record everything our kids say or do,” The ad reads. Lake’s campaign reiterated that she supports the concept.
Lake Wants to Put Government Spy Cameras into School Classrooms– Lake would mandate the idea of putting cameras in classrooms to surveil teachers and children. The Arizona Republic called the idea “a digital paradise for predators looking to put a name to a child’s face and collect a trove of personal information.”
