Families Are Losing Access to IVF Because of Donald Trump and Arizona Republicans

Arizonans are going to be the last line of defense in November to ensure Trump and Arizona Republicans cannot enact extreme abortion stances nationwide

February 26, 2024

ARIZONA– Today, Arizona Democratic Party Chair Yolanda Bejarano released the following statement on the Alabama Supreme Court ruling restricting access to in vitro fertilization (IVF) and a majority of our Congressional Republicans co-sponsoring the Life at Conception Act, a direct result of Trump’s MAGA, anti-freedom agenda:

“Arizonans are watching families in Alabama lose access to IVF in horror. We know that Trump is responsible for the chaos and cruelty playing out as his attacks on reproductive rights rip away even more freedoms from women across the country. Arizona Republicans in Congress are following Trump’s lead and are coming for access to IVF, co-sponsoring the Life at Conception Act and “fetal personhood” legislation. If given the chance, Trump and his MAGA allies will force their anti-abortion agenda onto families in Arizona and across the nation. This November, Arizonans are going to ensure they never get the chance: flipping the US House by voting out Rep. Schweikert, Rejecting Donald Trump for a second time, and defeating Kari Lake to secure the Senate.”

It’s Donald Trump’s Extremism that has gotten us to this point, now Arizona Republicans are continuing his agenda in Congress:

  • Trump has bragged about restricting the reproductive freedom of millions of womensaying proudly that “I’m the one that got rid of Roe v. Wade.”
  • Mere days before the ruling, new reporting revealed Trump’s plans for a national abortion ban that would rip abortion rights from even more women across America.
  • Trump has long supported a nationwide abortion ban, even saying in a speech to his MAGA supporters that “there of course remains a vital role for the federal government in protecting unborn life. And it’s very important.”
  • Trump has even gone so far as to call for punishing women who have abortions.
  • Trump appointed an anti-IVF judge to a lifetime federal judicial appointment. He even added her to a list of potential Supreme Court picks.
  • Trump’s White House and campaign hosted the Alabama Supreme Court chief justice who ruled to restrict access to IVF.
  • A majority of Arizona Republicans in the House have co-sponsored the Life at Conception Act. Rep. Andy Biggs, Debbie Lesko, Paul Gosar, and Eli Crane.
  • Rep. David Schweikert co-sponsored previous versions of the Life at Conception Act.
