Congressional Corral: Keeping Up With the Insurrectionists
New Year, same pasture: Here’s a look at what Arizona Insurrectionists have been up to since January 6th.
ARIZONA- This Saturday marks the third anniversary of the January 6th insurrection, where Trump and Arizona Republicans lead a violent mob to storm the Capitol under the belief that the 2020 election was stolen. In this special addition of the Congressional Corral, we are going to look at what Arizona Insurrectionists have been up to.
- David Schweikert (AZ-01): Rep Schweikert from day one has supported the insurrection and fueled the ‘Big Lie’ siding with insurrectionists’ by voting against certifying the election, voting against an independent commission, and voted to protect Trump’s key witness Steve Bannon. In 2022 Schweikert was caught on tape admitting that he supports pardoning insurrectionists.
- Juan Ciscomani (AZ-06): Ciscomani voted twice to make key January 6th insurrectionist Jim Jordan speaker and eventually supported the current speaker’s bid. During the insurrection Jim Jordan and House Speaker Mike Johnson objected to Arizona’s electoral results.
- Paul Gosar (AZ-09): Just in the past month, Rep. Gosar voiced support for investigating in the January 6th Committee. This move comes after Rep. Gosar was named in January 6th Committee Congressional Hearings with questions about his role in meetings with Senior White House leaders about rejecting electoral college votes on January 6th.
- Eli Crane (AZ-02): Rep. Crane spoke at the “Justice for J6 Rally” at the Arizona State Capitol to support the January 6th insurrectionists alongside white nationalists and Nazi apologists.
- Andy Biggs (AZ-05): Rep. Andy Biggs was among four Republican members of Congress referred to the House Ethics Committee for failing to comply with a subpoena from the panel that investigated the riot at the U.S. Capitol. Rep Biggs was mentioned in January 6th Committee Congressional Hearings with questions about his role in meetings with Senior White House leaders about rejecting electoral college votes on January 6th.
- BONUS! Let’s not forget some AZ-08 Congressional hopefuls who played a key role in the Capitol riots:
- Failed AG Candidate Abe Hamadeh: Abe Hamadeh has racked up endorsements from key January 6th players for his race in AZ-08: including Donald Trump, Arizona State Sen. Janae Shamp, Former state GOP Chairwoman Kelli Ward, and Arizona State Rep. Alex Kolodin.
- State Senator Anthony Kern: After getting caught in 4k storming the Capitol, State Senator Anthony Kern was exposed for allegedly using campaign funds to attend the insurrection.
- Failed Senate Candidate Blake Masters: Blake Masters stood by Donald Trump’s Big Lie. In an interview Masters said that Josh Hawley and Ted Cruz were ‘right’ to object on January 6th.
- Q-Annon Shaman: Jacob Chansley better known as the Q-Anon Shaman was the face of the insurrection. The ‘QAnon Shaman’ has doubled down on his actions telling the BBC after his jail sentence that “Regrets only weigh down the mind; they’re like sandbags on a hot air balloon.”
