On the two-year anniversary of the Dobbs decision, a reminder that Arizona Republicans are in lockstep with Donald Trump
Today marks the second anniversary of Donald Trump’s Supreme Court taking away our abortion rights, ushering in an era of extreme abortion bans in Arizona. However, Donald Trump isn’t alone in celebrating the overturning of Roe. Here’s a special edition round-up (corral) of what our Arizona Republicans are doing to ban abortion:
- Rep. David Schweikert (AZ-01): two years ago today said he was “pleased” with the court’s decision because it is in line with his long anti-abortion record. Schweikert has co-sponsored the Life at Conception Act six times and voted to restrict access to abortion medication.
- Rep. Juan Ciscomani (AZ-06): “applauded” the Dobbs decision, saying he is “proudly pro-life.” Before Ciscomani was in Congress, he bragged about packing the Arizona Supreme Court that decided to bring back an 1864 abortion ban post-Dobbs. Some of his first actions in Congress was voting against abortion rights and co-sponsoring HR 7, legislation that prohibits using government subsidies, including tax credits, to purchase insurance plans that cover abortions.
- Rep. Eli Crane (AZ-02): called the Dobbs decision a “victory for life” and got campaign funding from the Anti-choice group National Right to Life Committee.
- Rep. Andy Biggs (AZ-05): said the Dobbs decision was a “major victory” and introduced legislation in Congress that would require doctors to perform an ultrasound on a woman seeking abortion care and “display the ultrasound images so that the pregnant woman may view them” and “provide a complete medical description of the ultrasound images.”
- Rep. Paul Gosar (AZ-09): celebrated the Dobbs decision as “a return to civilization.” Gosar has co-sponsored the Life at Conception Act, which bans abortion nationwide and puts IVF in jeopardy.
