ARIZONA- Yesterday, the Supreme Court ruled in favor of abortion rights, protecting access to Mifepristone. Following the ruling, Arizona Republicans ran to cover up their long and detailed record of advocating for a nationwide abortion ban and putting reproductive healthcare like IVF, Mifepristone, and contraception on the chopping block. It’s Friday, so here’s a round-up (corral) of what our Arizona Republicans are up to:
- Rep. Juan Ciscomani (AZ-06): touted a Republican bill that “seeks to fight against ‘fearmongering’ surrounding birth control access” just moments after the GOP voted down legislation in the Senate that would protect IVF. Ciscomani has a long history of lying about his anti-abortion record which includes packing the Arizona Supreme Court, supporting the Life at Conception Act, and co-sponsoring H.R. 7, legislation that prohibits using government subsidies, including tax credits, to purchase insurance plans that cover abortions.
- Rep. David Schweikert (AZ-01): voted to restore a Confederate monument to Arlington National Cemetery; the monument uses racist imagery.
- Rep. Eli Crane (AZ-02): went straight to Steve Bannon’s “War Room” after Trump’s visit to the US Capitol. He talked about how Republicans need to shut down the government and how he considers himself a “wartime Congressman.” This comes after Crane put AZ airports at risk over his political grudge with Speaker Johson.
- Rep. Andy Biggs (AZ-05): was called out on his hypocrisy for attacking Joe Biden’s son.
- Rep. Paul Gosar (AZ-09): is still pushing for the video of special counsel Robert Hur and President Joe Biden, calling Biden “senile” on Twitter and voting for the AG to be considered in Contempt of Congress. This is after Rep. Biggs was pushed by a Newsmax reporter last week on whether wanting the tape was political theater.
