Congressional Corral: AZ Republicans Embraced MAGA Extremism this Week
From Cameos to Impeachment Inquiries, Arizona Republicans always end up in the MAGA Republican Herd…
Arizona — Despite labeling themselves as commonsense moderates, Arizona Congressional Republicans continue to embrace MAGA extremism. It’s Friday! So here’s a round-up (corral) of what Arizona Republicans did this week:
- Rep. David Schweikert (AZ-01): Teamed up with MAGA Republican Marjorie Taylor Green, telling Fox News that he supports a formal impeachment inquiry into President Biden.
- Reps. Eli Crane (AZ-02) and Andy Biggs (AZ-05): Cosponsored legislation to end birthright citizenship for individuals born in the U.S. to parents who are citizens of other countries.
- Rep. Andy Biggs (AZ-05): Tweeted about legislation he introduced to defund the District Attorney’s office prosecuting Donald Trump for attempting to overturn the 2020 election. Just last week Biggs attacked Arizona Attorney General Kris Mayes for prosecuting 2020 election fraud.
- Rep. Juan Ciscomani (AZ-06): After voting “YEA” to make it easier for the ultra-rich to cheat on their taxes, a Koch affiliated Super PAC announced their endorsement of Ciscomani alongside MAGA Republicans Monica De La Cruz (R-Texas) and NV GOP Senate challenger Sam Brown.
- Rep. Paul Gosar (AZ-09): Despite saying “I was the one who started the revolution,” Liz Cheney’s book revealed that Gosar was “visibly afraid” during the insurrection.
- BONUS! Expelled Congressman and Cameo star George Santos, called Rep. Andy Biggs one of his congressional besties- alongside MAGA Republicans Lauren Boebert and Matt Gaetz in a new cameo video. Rep. Paul Gosar defended his “NEY’ vote for Santo’s expulsion in his weekly newsletter, calling out Rep. Schweikert’s 11 ethics violations: “My colleague from Arizona, Mr. Schweikert, has 11 ethics violations, was fined $50,000 for lying to the Ethics Committee and fined $175,000 by the Federal Election Committee for misusing campaign money.”
