Blake Breakdown: No Dollars, No Sense, 100% Masters
PHOENIX — Welcome to the latest edition of the ‘Blake Breakdown’ — a weekly roundup of the latest news on Blake Masters, the “fringe,” “extreme,” and “dangerous” Republican nominee for U.S. Senate.
Known for his divisive rhetoric, far-right positions, and Twitter temper tantrums, Masters is a risk Arizonans cannot afford. From now until November 8th, the Arizona Democratic Party’s ‘Blake Breakdown’ is here to help you keep track of the latest reason why he has no business serving in the U.S. Senate.
Here’s what you missed this week:
AMERICA FIRST, HUH?: Following last week’s damning Vice News report exposing Blake Masters’ pattern of disrespecting our military, today the Arizona Republic revealed even more unreported comments where Masters attacked our brave servicemembers as “woefully inadequate,” “piss poor,” and “embarrassing.” Given that the only person Masters has ever served besides himself is his billionaire benefactor Peter Thiel, Masters owes each and every one of Arizona’s half a million veterans an apology.
BLAKE’S GOT 99 PROBLEMS AND MITCH IS STILL ONE: On Wednesday, Masters crawled back to Washington D.C. for his second fundraiser hosted by Mitch McConnell in the last few weeks, signifying, more than anything, just how desperate Masters is to raise a buck. Between Masters’ previous badmouthing of the Minority Leader and McConnell’s (not so) subtle digs at Masters’ “candidate quality,” we’re guessing the schmoozefest wasn’t at all awkward. Our only question for Blake: Was the $100,000 raise worth it to swallow your pride, dignity, and a likely overcooked steak?
ROE ROE ROE US BACK TO 1973 1864: While a Pima County judge decides whether Arizona women will be subject to a 2022 15-week abortion ban without exceptions for rape or incest OR an 1864 pre-statehood ban that criminalizes abortion and mandates jail time for doctors (yep, the options are really that bad), Blake Masters has come out in support of federalizing versions of *both bans.* Doctors are saying either ban will be devastating for women’s health outcomes, but Masters, who has previously called to jail physicians for providing essential care, obviously isn’t listening to their medical advice. “JD? MD? Same thing” – Masters, probably.
BEG, BORROW, OR THIEL: They always go crawling back…Realizing one must be likable (or at least electable) to make it in the world of political fundraising, Masters is falling back on old (lazy) habits and turning to his Big Tech puppet master, Peter Thiel, for cash. After ponying up $15 million to buy his protégé’s way to the general election, Thiel is opening up his wallet (and his California home) for another Masters fundraiser next week. These days, Masters is (very much) for sale, and his stock is wayyy down, meaning Thiel is about to buy a whole lot of influence.
