Blake Breakdown: Arizonans Are Voting, But Blake Is (Still) Stuck in the Year 2020

PHOENIX — Welcome to the latest edition of the ‘Blake Breakdown’ — a weekly roundup of the latest news on Blake Masters, the “fringe,” “extreme,” and “dangerous” Republican nominee for U.S. Senate.

Known for his divisive rhetoric, far-right positions, and Twitter temper tantrums, Masters is a risk Arizonans cannot afford. From now until November 8th, the Arizona Democratic Party’s ‘Blake Breakdown’ is here to help you keep track of the latest reason why he has no business serving in the U.S. Senate.

Here’s what you missed this week:

IT’S LIKE A BAD BREAKUP HE NEVER GOT OVER: On Wednesday — the first day of voting in Arizona’s 2022 midterm election — Blake went on Fox News to sow doubt in an election decided nearly two years ago. Parroting the same “I think Trump won in 2020” nonsense he featured in a campaign video last fall, Masters committed to the baseless bit, adding “Well, I still believe it. That’s for sure.” Two years later and this sore loser is already preparing for another loss, preemptively suggesting there will be fraud this year too (without any evidence, obviously).

THE BAR IS ON THE FLOOR: Earlier this week, Mike Pence came to town and endorsed Masters, a Trump loyalist who previously insisted that the January 6th attack on the Capitol — the same event where participants chanted “hang Mike Pence” — wasn’t “violent at all” and rather a “false flag” operation orchestrated by the FBI. Clearly, some people have standards, and some people are just thrilled to join the exclusive (read: short) list of people who have endorsed Blake including MTG, ex-Congressman Madison Cawthorn, Senator sprinter Josh Hawley, and a list of prominent Neo-Nazis

CUT FROM THE SAME CLOTH: Yesterday, Blake cozied up to Lindsey Graham — an establishment “RINO” known for reminiscing on the “good old days of segregation” and crafting the latest national abortion ban. For Blake’s part, he’s spent the last year blaming gun violence on “Black people, frankly” and pushing to completely ban abortion in America without exceptions for rape or incest, so we’re guessing they had a few things to talk about.

BEG, BORROW, THIEL: He begged for McConnell money, he had to lend his campaign his personal funds, and now Masters is fully owned by Big Tech billionaire Peter Thiel. In the months since Thiel bankrolled his tech bro protégé through the primary, Masters’ stock has only gone down, publicly failing to attract National Republican investors due to his obviously poor “candidate quality” and “dark, dystopian” beliefs. So now, majority shareholder Peter Thiel is ramping up his buy-in, reportedly cutting another $5 million check to boost his boy Blake — a for-sale candidate who has a history of using his power and position to benefit Thiel as a return on his investment. The biggest losers in this sell-out are Arizonans, who can’t possibly compete with millions of dollars in incentives.

IT’S A CIRCUS, AND MASTERS IS THE JOKE: On Sunday, Masters rallied with Trump in Mesa, delivering his same old stump with his same old conspiracies, this time with an added dash of “Great Replacement” theory, which, lucky for all of us, was also parroted by his fellow speaker, “friend,” and endorser Marjorie Taylor Greene. This is where we’d usually make a joke about the circus, but given that the ringleader used to live in the White House and the clown continues to walk the halls of Congress, we just can’t afford for Masters to make it to the Senate.
