Arizona Democratic Party and Pinal County Democratic Party Joint Statement on Election Issues in Pinal County
PHOENIX and FLORENCE – Today, the Chair of the Arizona Democratic Party Raquel Terán and the Chair of the Pinal County Democratic Party Lisa Sanor released the following statement following issues in Pinal County’s Primary Election.

“We are beyond disappointed by, and highly concerned about a myriad of issues that arose in Pinal County’s administration of the August 2nd Primary Election. It is critical to a healthy democracy that every voter has an opportunity to make their voice heard – and yesterday Pinal County failed their voters.”

“The issues experienced yesterday in Pinal County are not unheard of and there are solutions to remedy these types of errors. These issues are a direct result of:

  • Years of the state underfunding elections and the counties that run them
  • Countless legislative attacks have hampered the ability of county elections officials to make voting safe, accessible and convenient
  • Dangerous conspiracy theories perpetuated by the AZGOP (and ALL of their nominees!) that we cannot trust our elections”

“Simply stated the issues in Pinal County are unacceptable anywhere in Arizona, let alone in our third largest county with a growing, diverse population. We are calling on the Pinal County Board of Supervisors and the Elections Department to take every possible action to ensure that these same types of issues do not happen in November, or ever again. We must do everything we can to ensure there are no disenfranchised voters. And we are committed to being trusted partners with the Pinal County Board of Supervisors, Recorders’ Office and Elections Department in the fight for every eligible voter to participate in our safe, secure, accessible elections.”
