ADP Statement on the One-Year Anniversary of the January 6th Capitol Insurrection
PHOENIX — Today, on the one-year anniversary of the January 6th Capitol Insurrection, Arizona Democratic Party Chair Raquel Terán released the following statement:

“The deadly attack that took place on this day last year was one of the darkest days in the history of American democracy. This insurrection was not only an assault on the Capitol — it was a direct threat to our country and our democracy.

“As we recognize this solemn anniversary, we must not only remember this terrible day — but also the events that led to this stain on our history. Because this insurrection was a direct result of House Republicans, including Arizona’s own Andy Biggs and Paul Gosar, lies around the 2020 election, their calls to decertify Arizona electors, and their alleged help to coordinate the ‘Stop the Steal’ rally that incited violent rioters.

“Unfortunately for Arizona, the lies and conspiracies that fueled this deadly attack continued to live on in Arizona through the duration of Republicans’ expensive and harmful sham ‘audit’ and through the cowardly lies that Republican politicians continue to spread as a part of some ‘purity test’ even today.

“Whether we’re talking about House Republicans’ coddling of insurrectionists or Governor Ducey’s complicit silence on the ‘audit,’ one thing is clear: Arizonans are sick and tired of the chaos, the conspiracies, and the lies. And that’s why Arizona Democrats remain steadfast in our commitment to move forward with a unifying vision to help every Arizonan and to hold accountable those who threaten our democracy.”
