GOP Gubernatorial Primary Increasingly Hostile As Election Day Nears

PHOENIX—The explosive “MAGA death match” and race to the bottom between Kari Lake and Karrin Taylor Robson will have new ammo this week as former vice president Mike Pence  comes to Arizona on Friday for Karrin Taylor Robson–the same day his former running mate, Donald Trump will be rallying for Robson’s opponent, Kari Lake. As election day looms, this bitter primary race has fractured the Republican Party with opposing endorsements, name calling and once unified GOP power players now taking separate sides. 
 

With less than two weeks until the primary,  Robson is desperately blitzing the airwaves, spending millions of her own money in an attempt to differentiate herself from Kari Lake.

But Robson stills aligns with Kari Lake on nearly every issue from abortion, to guns, to pushing conspiracy theories about elections. Last week, Karrin Taylor Robson went on Sunday Square Off and refused to commit to certifying the 2024 presidential election if elected governor, while Kari Lake is aggressively touting her Trump endorsement and referring to Ducey and Pence as “RINOs.” 

“With early ballots already on voters’ kitchen tables, Kari Lake and Karrin Taylor Robson have been battling it out to prove who’s the most far-right candidate, ” said Josselyn Berry, spokesperson for the Arizona Democratic Party. “Arizona Republican voters are left to choose between an avowed conspiracy theorist who has suggested she’ll refuse to concede if she loses, and a wealthy lobbyist with a history of donating to Democrats when it benefits herself and her business. Once the dust settles on this hostile primary, it’ll be clear that neither Lake nor Taylor Robson can unify their own party, let alone Arizona. Both are clearly too dangerous, too out-of-touch and beyond unfit to be our next Governor.”
