ICYMI: Donald Trump embraces Architect of ‘Show me your Papers” Era Racism

June 10th, 2024

ARIZONA- Last week, Donald Trump visited Arizona for the first time in two years and after several cancellations. During the rally at Dream City Church, Trump embraced and kissed Joe Arpaio, former Sheriff of Maricopa County and architect of SB1070, widely known as the “show me your papers” law that galvanized thousands of Arizona to fight back anti-immigrant discrimination. The Arizona Democratic Party Chairwoman Yolanda Bejarano released the following statement regarding Trump’s literal embrace of racism:

“Another Trump presidency would be a step backward into darker times for Arizonans and for our country. Trump has consistently aligned himself with white supremacists, insurrectionists, and criminals who actively undermine our democracy and encite chaos. We cannot allow the return of Arpaio-era discrimination and we will work tirelessly to ensure Trump does not win in November.”

Arizona Democrats are prepared to fight for Arizonans rights up and down the ticket. To learn more about key initiatives, how to vote, or how to support Democrats this election cycle, please visit azdem.org.
