Arizona Democratic Party Statement on the 58th Anniversary of the 1965 Voting Rights Act

Today, Arizona Democratic Party Chair Yolanda Bejarano released the following statement on the 58th anniversary of The Voting Rights Act becoming law:

“Fifty-eight years ago today, because of activism and the tireless work of civil rights heroes- President Lyndon B. Johnson signed the 1965 Voting Rights Act into law. The Voting Rights Act is a landmark legislation that protects voters and expands voter participation. As Arizona Republicans continue to attack and undermine free, fair, and organized elections, it’s critical to elect representatives that value the power of each citizen’s voice. Arizonans understand that the GOP’s continuous election denialism is not based on legitimate concerns but an attempt to make it harder to vote out their extreme and unpopular policies.”
