ARIZONA — This week, the Arizona Abortion Access Act (Prop 139) was officially certified by the Secretary of State’s office to be on November’s ballot. Arizonans collected a historic number of signatures for Abortion Access, with the secretary of state’s office estimating that 577,971 signatures were turned in.
Prop 139 would enshrine abortion rights for all Arizonans, a long-standing priority for Democrats in Arizona and local Democrats who have fought tirelessly to protect these rights for Arizonans, including the successful repeal of the 1864 abortion ban.
As Republicans and the Arizona Supreme Court try and make the ballot initiative seem extreme, The Chair of the Arizona Democratic Party and Arizona Democratic Legislative Campaign Committee released the following statements:
“Prop 139 is a historic ballot measure for Arizonans, who resoundingly believe in abortion rights and are tired of Republicans’ extreme interference in their personal medical decisions,” said Chairwoman of the Arizona Democratic Party Yolanda Bejarano. “While Arizona Republicans up and down the ballot work to dismantle abortion access and seek to confuse voters, Arizona Democrats are working towards protecting abortion rights, IVF, and contraceptives. This November, Arizonans are going to pass Prop 139 and elect Democrats up and down the ballot that are going to enshrine abortion rights.”
”Abortion rights are on the ballot this November, from Prop 139 to Arizonans having the greatest chance in recent decades to flip the Republican-controlled state legislature,” said ADLCC Board Chair Senator Priya Sundareshan. “While Republicans in the legislature and the Arizona Supreme Court attempt to confuse voters and strip away our abortion rights, it’s been Democrats in the legislature who have fought to protect and enshrine our rights. This November, Arizonans are going to flip the Republican-controlled legislature and codify abortion rights.”
