ADP and ADLCC Along With Chairs from Coconino, Pinal, Navajo and Gila Counties Condemn Senator Rogers’ Egregious Comments

PHOENIX — This weekend, State Senator Wendy Rogers made the conscious decision to speak at the America First Political Action Conference, an event organized by well known white nationalist and Holocaust denier Nick Fuentes that gives a platform to hateful rhetoric. The fact that she even attended this event in itself is extremely concerning, but she decided to take things even further by making egregious comments about her “political enemies.” We are not going to repeat those comments verbatim, as they were so unconscionable they should not be repeated even for the purpose of condemning them.

This country has seen a sharp increase in calls for violence against government officials at all levels. School board members, secretaries of state, and governors across the country have detailed harrowing experiences of death threats, including right here in Arizona. The statements by Senator Rogers signal to these aggressors that their actions are acceptable, and even encouraged. That we are still having to make these statements against calls for political violence after the events of January 6th is a disgrace to modern American history, and Senator Rogers is a disgrace to Arizona.

“Senator Rogers has proven time and time again that she has no respect for her oath of office or for the people of Arizona. I only wish she was as passionate about working for the benefit of all Arizonans as she is about feeding into culture wars and pandering to white nationalists,” said Arizona Democratic Party Chair Raquel Terán. “As someone who works with her every day, statements like these make me concerned for my own safety and my ability to work for my constituents. I call on all of my colleagues, Democrat and Republican, to denounce the actions of Senator Rogers and show the people of Arizona that as an elected body we will not stand for this kind of rhetoric.”
