Will Ducey and Brnovich Back Proposed 6-Week Abortion Ban?
Newly Introduced Legislation Copies Texas’ Unconstitutional Ban

Today, the Arizona Mirror reported that the Arizona legislature will consider their own version of Texas’ dangerous abortion ban.

If signed into law, this legislation would ban all abortions after a fetal heartbeat was detected, which is often before even a woman knows she is pregnant, including in cases of rape or incest. It also follows Texas’ law by proposing $10,000 bounties on anyone who helps a woman receive an abortion.

As a reminder: Governor Ducey has repeatedly said he wants to repeal Roe v. Wade, has signed into law every abortion restriction bill that has reached his desk, and recently said he’d “look forward to leading that session” that passed even more archaic abortion bans.

Attorney General Brnovich, who is in charge of enforcing these laws, has also used his office to support Texas and Mississippi’s abortion bans currently in front of the Supreme Court.

“This attempt to ban all legal abortions in Arizona is dangerous, abhorrent, and entirely unconstitutional. Republican politicians have gone too far in their attempts to implement their unpopular and reckless agenda,” said ADP Spokesperson Sarah Guggenheimer. “As Arizona’s head of state and chief prosecutor, Governor Ducey and Attorney General Brnovich must immediately share whether they would sign into law and enforce this legislation.”
