Arizona Republicans Vote Against Bill to Lower Costs and Combat Inflation
While the vast majority of House Democrats voted to pass a bill to help lower gas and grocery prices and combat inflation, all Republicans from Arizona voted against the bill
Today, Arizona Democrats in Congress passed the Lower Food & Fuel Costs Act to help lower food and gas prices. Meanwhile, nearly 200 House Republicans, including the entire Arizona Republican delegation, voted against measures to help lower costs and help combat inflation.
“While Arizona Democrats are laser focused on lowering costs, today’s vote shows once again that many Republicans are more interested in inflicting their extreme, ultra-MAGA agenda than fighting the effects of inflation. Democrats passed this bill to help lower prices at the pump and cut costs for Arizonans at the supermarket — and Representatives Biggs, Gosar, Lesko, and Schweikert’s votes against this bill is yet another example of Republicans voting against the interests of working Arizonans,” said Arizona Democratic Party Spokesperson Aida Ross.
Specifically, the Lower Food & Fuel Costs Act would lower costs by:
- Increasing competition in the meat and poultry industries to prevent artificially high pricing;
- Making E15 fuel available year-round and encouraging production of biofuels;
- Making fertilizer more accessible to farmers to help lower produce costs;
- Creating a supply chain task force.
This “no” vote is the latest in a long pattern of Republicans actively working against cutting costs for working Arizonans and addressing supply chain issues. In the past few months, House Republicans have voted against bills to prevent gas price gouging, address the infant formula shortage, capping the cost of insulin at $35 a month, and more. Additionally, every congressional Republican voted against the American Rescue Plan, which has saved Arizonans money on everything from their health care premiums to rent or mortgage to child care costs, and more.
