Statement from ADP Recognizing and Celebrating Juneteenth

PHOENIX – In recognition of Juneteenth, the day slaves in Galveston, Texas were finally notified of their freedom, Arizona Democratic Party Chair Raquel Terán made the following statement:

“Today is a day of celebration and reflection,” said ADP Chair Raquel Teràn. “While we celebrate Juneteenth today, we must also recognize the continued effects slavery has on Black communities. As some people in power continue their attempts to rewrite history and disregard systemic racism, the fight for justice and equality remains a priority of the Arizona Democratic Party.”

“Juneteenth represents a moment of freedom and joy for our African American ancestors,” said Arizona Democratic Party Black Caucus Chair Connie DeLarge. “We can all celebrate the end of slavery and we must continue doing the work to uplift members of our Black community.”
