ADVISORY: Arizona Democrats to Hold Press Conference on Republican Attorney General’s Reinstatement of Draconian Pre-Statehood Total Abortion Ban
PHOENIX — TODAY, at 12:00 PM MST, Attorney General candidate Kris Mayes and State Senate Democratic Leader Rebecca Rios will join Arizona Democrats for a press conference on Attorney General turned GOP Senate primary candidate Mark Brnovich’s decision to reinstate a draconian, 121-year-old law predating Arizona statehood that completely bans abortion.
This extreme, draconian law criminalizes abortion at all stages of pregnancy — with no exceptions for rape or incest — and mandates jail time for anyone who facilitates an abortion. Brnovich’s attempt to reinstate this previously enjoined law is nothing short of a cruel and dangerous effort to revoke Arizonans’ health care freedoms.
Speakers at today’s event will condemn Attorney General Brnovich’s decision and emphasize the incredible urgency of electing Democrats up and down the ballot who will restore abortion access for Arizonans. Additionally, they will discuss the existential threat that anti-choice Republicans pose to Arizonans — the overwhelming majority of whom support access to safe and legal abortion.
