Kari Lake’s Extreme and Dangerous Stance on Abortion Goes Against What Arizonans Want

PHOENIX–Now that Kari Lake is the official GOP nominee for governor it’s critical to again review her extreme and out of touch stances on the issues. Abortion access is widely popular in Arizona, and yet Kari Lake  has taken the most radical and fringe position on the issue.

“Kari Lake’s extremist views on abortion are going to be disastrous and life-threatening for Arizonans,” said Josselyn Berry, spokesperson for the Arizona Democratic Party.  “Her frenzied desire to ban abortion in nearly all cases is in direct opposition to the majority of Arizonans who want abortion to remain legal and accessible. We need to take her at her word and realize if she gets to the governor’s office, she will absolutely be dangerous for Arizona women.”

Kari Lake has made her stance on abortion clear, saying she is 100% pro-life, suggesting she opposes exceptions for rape and incest, and has referred to abortion as murder. When asked if she supported exceptions for rape and incest, Lake said, “I don’t believe that any child should be killed in a mother’s womb” and that “life is sacred and you don’t mess with what God wants.”

She responded to the SCOTUS decision overturning Roe by saying she supports the 1901 Arizona law that would require a minimum of two years of prison for abortion providers and doesn’t include exceptions for rape or incest. In a June interview on Fox News, Lake said she supports banning abortion pills and Lake has also previously called abortion the “ultimate sin” and pledged to sign a “carbon copy” of the Texas 6-week ban on abortion, that does NOT include exceptions for rape or incest.
