ICYMI: “Before Winning the Republican Nomination, Blake Masters said, ‘Absolutely No Abortions.’”
PHOENIX — On Tuesday, The American Independent exposed Blake Masters’ flagrant and desperate attempts to hide his well-documented support for a nationwide abortion ban without exceptions. Now that he’s facing a general election, Masters is hard at work lying to Arizonans about his dangerous position on an issue where he is at odds with 87% of Arizona voters.

For over a year, Masters ran as a “fringe” conservative, publicly and enthusiastically calling for a national abortion ban. He repeatedly urged his fellow Republicans to “go on offense” and institute a federal personhood law that could mandate jail time for women accessing health care. He has even gone as far as calling abortion “demonic” and a “religious sacrifice.”

Masters cannot run from his own words. Arizonans will not be fooled.

Read the full story here, or see below for key excerpts:

  • Prior to winning Arizona’s Republican Senate nomination, racist venture capitalist Blake Masters presented himself as “unapologetically” and “100%” against abortion from the moment of conception.
  • [In the last two weeks, Masters has] distanced himself from his previous support for a federal “personhood law,” which would grant legal rights to a zygote from the moment of conception and ban virtually all abortions.
  • Throughout the primary, he repeatedly expressed his support for a national prohibition on abortions.
  • “I think the federal government has a role to play here… Absolutely no abortions,” Masters said.
  • [When asked about the specifics of his position, Masters said,] “I’m just unapologetically and unqualifiedly pro-life,” he replied. “From conception?” his questioner asked. “From conception,” Masters responded. He noted, “There’s going to be disagreement about this issue in America, but for me, it’s very clear.”
  • As of Tuesday, Masters’ campaign website says that he supports “a federal personhood law (ideally a Constitutional amendment) that recognizes that unborn babies are human beings that may not be killed.”
  • So-called “personhood” laws grant legal rights to fertilized eggs, zygotes, embryos, and fetuses, go far beyond banning later abortions.
