Arizona Democratic Party on Masters’ Potential Senate Candidacy
ARIZONA -–In response to reporting from the Wall Street Journal that failed candidate Blake Masters plans to run again for Senate, increasing “[Republicans’] worry Kari Lake and Blake Masters will lose Arizona Senate race again,” Arizona Democratic Party Senior Communications Advisor Olivia Taylor-Puckett issued the following statement:
“The Arizona Senate race is rapidly becoming the GOP’s worst nightmare.”

- Republican Blake Masters, who lost his Arizona Senate bid last year, is set to announce he is running again in 2024, according to people familiar with his plans, injecting additional uncertainty into what is expected to be one of the most chaotic and competitive races in the country.
- His expected announcement in coming weeks could put him on a collision course with popular fellow Republican Kari Lake, who is leaning toward announcing her own Senate campaign this fall.
- Lake, a close Trump ally, made an unsuccessful bid for governor in 2022. She and Masters held events together where they focused on animating the party’s right flank and leaned heavily into their endorsements from former President Donald Trump. Lake is popular with Republican voters and would be the favorite for the GOP nomination if she runs.
- Pinal County Sheriff Mark Lamb, a Republican, has already announced he is running.
- National and state Republicans have worried about their ability to win the state with candidates who have aligned themselves so closely with Trump and his false claims of election fraud. Still, most believe that if Lake gets into the race, she will likely be the Republican nominee.
