Ann Kirkpatrick was elected to Congress in 2008. She previously served in the Arizona Legislature for two terms as a state representative. Ann was born in McNary, grew up in Whiteriver and went to college and law school at the University of Arizona. From there, she went on to serve as Coconino County’s first female deputy county attorney and as City Attorney for Sedona. As a prosecutor, she worked closely with law enforcement personnel to put drug traffickers and violent criminals behind bars. Congresswoman Kirkpatrick is running for her 2nd term in Congress this November.

Harry E. Mitchell is a native Arizonan and taught government and economics at Tempe High School and served as Mayor of Tempe. In downtown Tempe, a 35-foot statue of Harry Mitchell was built after his term as mayor and the city’s government center was renamed after him. Due to his success as mayor, he was elected into the Arizona State Senate and then the House of Representatives in 2006. Congressman Mitchell is running for his 3rd term in Congress this November.

Gabrielle Giffords is a native Arizonan from Tucson. After receiving her B.A. from Scripps College, she took over her family’s tire and automotive business, El Campo Tire, Inc. She represented Tucson in the Arizona State Senate and was the youngest woman ever elected. As a member of House, she serves on the Armed Services Committee, Science and Technology Committee, Vice Chair of the Sustainable Energy and Environment Coalition, and many other House committees. Terry Goddard is an Arizona native, served in the Navy, and received his law degree from Arizona State University. His legal career started by being hired into the Arizona Attorney General’s Office as a crime prosecutor and was elected Mayor of Phoenix four times from 1984-1990. Terry served as Arizona Director for the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development until 2002. Terry was elected Attorney General in 2002 and reelected in 2006. He is the Democratic nominee for Governor in this November’s general election.

Sandra Kennedy graduated from South Mountain High School and alumni of Arizona State University with B.A. in Accounting and Business Administration. In 1986, she was elected the Arizona House of Representatives and served for six years. Albert is an advocate for the Navajo community and other Indian tribes. In 2004, he was appointed to the Arizona State Senate and serves on the Appropriations Committee and Subcommittee on Health and Welfare, Judiciary, and Rules. Phil Lopes has been serving District 27 since 2003. He has been involved with public health since 1973, and was a founder and member of the board of the Arizona Health Care Campaign and a senior manager at the Arizona Department of Health Services. Along with helping to establish Pima Community College Lopes is a founding faculty member of the University of Arizona College of Public Health. He is also one of the first 25 people selected for the Peace Corps, and served for two years in Colombia and as staff for two years in Brazil.

Olivia Cajero Bedford is a native Tucsonan and has been serving District 27 since 2003. Both of her parents were state Representatives: Rep. Bernardo Cajero and Rep. Carmen Cajero. Before her time in the legislature, Cajero Bedford was a business owner and director of sales and marketing for the tourism industry. She now serves as a member of the Appropriations and Commerce Committees. In 2007 she was honored as one of the Tech 10 Legislators. In 2003 Phil Gordon was elected as the Mayor of Phoenix. Since then he has worked on public safety, education, and jobs in phoenix. His accomplishments include opening a new crime lab and building more police precincts, bringing Arizona State University and University of Arizona to a new campus in Downtown Phoenix, and releasing a 17-point plan to make Phoenix a carbon-neutral city. In 2008 an international think-tank located in London named Gordon Best Mayor in North America.
