In November, Martha McSally said a “fair” House investigation should include witnesses

Now, McSally is voting to block trial evidence and to keep witnesses like John Bolton from testifying

PHOENIX — The Arizona Democratic Party today released a new video highlighting unelected U.S. Sen. Martha McSally flip-flopping on hearing from first-hand witnesses and ensuring a fair impeachment process.

In November, McSally said of the House investigation that a “more fair” process would have witnesses. But last week, she voted to block evidence and testimony from former Trump national security advisor John Bolton and others. And last night, McSally again confirmed her opposition to witnesses and full evidence by tweeting, “I have heard enough. It is time to vote.”

“Yesterday, Martha McSally confirmed what Arizonans have known for months: she never intended to get to the truth by ensuring a fair trial with full evidence and witness testimony,” said Brad Bainum, Arizona Democratic Party spokesperson. “From the start, McSally’s only goal has been to protect her party leaders and her political career.”

Previously, McSally in 2018 praised Bolton for being “frank and direct,” adding “I have no doubt in my mind that he will always tell the president what he thinks and make the hard arguments.” But now she doesn’t want to hear from Bolton or from any other witnesses with first-hand testimony.

McSally’s votes to block Bolton and other witnesses come after she was in December caught on tape admitting that Republicans are worried about witness testimony from “some people” because “we don’t know how that’s going to go.”
