Trump Snubs Arizona Seniors, Loses Support

PHOENIX – Trump betrayed America’s seniors long before COVID-19. Trump has proposed numerous budgets that slashed Medicare, Medicaid, and Social Security, in addition to backing a lawsuit that would dismantle the Affordable Care Act. But now he’s making matters worse amidst this pandemic.

Trump squandered months of precious preparation time as the threat of the virus loomed. Now 78% of COVID-19 related deaths in Arizona are among those 65 and older.

Nursing homes and other long-term care facilities, which account for one-third of all coronavirus deaths in the U.S., have been crushed by Trump’s chaotic response.

But Trump and his allies have downplayed the deaths of seniors as a necessary sacrifice in order to reopen the country.  It is clear why older Arizonans don’t trust Trump and are reconsidering past support.

“Trump has failed in his COVID-19 response by downplaying the virus, ignoring experts, and wasting precious time, which has put seniors in harm’s way,” said Matt Grodsky, Arizona Democratic Party spokesman, “The Presidential race is between a Republican who willingly puts seniors at risk and a Democrat who will fight for their well being. The choice is easy.”
