Remembering Barb Lubin

“On Saturday, February 6th the Arizona Democratic Party lost our dear friend and colleague, Barbara Lubin.

“Barb served the state party for years in various roles, most recently as our Director of Operations. In August 2019 Barb learned that she had a brain tumor, the same exact cancer that she had in 2009 and successfully beat. Never at a loss for humor, Barb nicknamed the tumor Donald Trump.

“Barb underwent whole brain radiation and started on treatment targeting the cancer. She was doing well, but by November 2020 Barb’s symptoms began to get worse. The cancer had spread.

“Despite chemotherapy, Barb’s symptoms continued to worsen. She began in-home hospice at the end of January. Barb passed away surrounded by her loved ones on Saturday night.

“No one can truly know the sacrifice that party staff make. They serve in thankless roles that operate seven days a week, all hours of the day. But Barb made it look easy. She always had boundless energy, an infectious smile, refreshing laughter, and a fighting spirit.

“This profound sense of emptiness will be with us for a while. But we find comfort in knowing that Barb’s memory will live on in all of us and her beautiful family. We are thinking of them during this incredibly difficult time.

“Barb, we love you and thank you.”
