Release: Summer in Sights Thanks to Biden-Led Pandemic Recovery
PHOENIX –– After six months of sound economic policy, a successful vaccine rollout, and real leadership in the White House, we find ourselves approaching one of the many things we missed out on last year: a true summer. In fact, just as summer starts, Arizona reached a critical milestone that just months ago seemed impossible: More than six million doses of vaccine have been administered in the fight against COVID-19.
Compared to last June, under the leadership of President Joe Biden and with Democrats in control of Congress, Arizonans are also benefiting from increased economic growth as millions head back to work.
- An unemployment rate of 5.8 percent—a pandemic-era low and nearly half the unemployment rate of 11.1 percent from June 2020.
- Jobless claims below 400,000 for the first time since before the pandemic—a stark contrast to last June when an additional 1.5 million Americans filed for unemployment for the first time every week.
- Direct relief including stimulus checks of $1,400 and up to $3,600 per child in advanced child tax credit payments that are scheduled to hit mailboxes this summer—an initiative that will lift 112,000 Arizona children out of poverty.
“While Arizona Republicans continue talking about handing out more tax cuts to the wealthiest Americans and largest corporations, President Biden and Democrats in Congress have managed to deliver for hardworking Arizona families,” said ADP Spokesperson Hannah Goss. “Communities are vaccinated, businesses are booming, and families are finally getting the support they need to get back on their feet—all thanks to the leadership of President Biden and congressional Democrats’ commitment to delivering for their constituents.”
