“Last week the Arizona Democratic Party urged the Apache County Board of Supervisors to replace Rep. Teller with a Democrat that would carry out the will of LD7 voters.
“Yesterday, we were thrilled to learn of the appointment of Jasmine Blackwater-Nygren. A member of the Navajo Nation tribe, Ms. Blackwater-Nygren will serve as a state representative for Arizona’s 7th legislative district, filling a vital seat in the State Legislature.
“Blackwater-Nygren earned her undergraduate degree from Stanford University and graduated from ASU Law School. While still in law school, Rep. Nygren-Blackwater worked as a student attorney for the Indian Legal Clinic at ASU. She also worked as a Judicial Clerk for the Navajo Nation Supreme Court.
“This selection was made at a special meeting Tuesday where the Apache County Board of Supervisors filled the vacancy left by former state Rep. Arlando Teller who resigned last month to accept a position in the Biden administration. We congratulate Representative Blackwater-Nygren and know she will serve the constituents of Legislative District 7 well. We look forward to working with her and wish her the best of luck in her new role.”
