“The Arizona Democratic Party thanks Rep. Teller for his service and wishes him success in his new role as Deputy Assistant Secretary for Tribal Affairs in the U.S. Department of Transportation. Rep. Teller has a proven history of leadership on tribal infrastructure and transportation issues and we’re thrilled his voice will serve the entire country.
“Rep. Teller’s resignation now sets in motion the process by which his replacement must be selected.
“The people of LD7 voted overwhelmingly to send a Democrat to the State Legislature to represent them. Therefore, we urge the Apache County Board of Supervisors to appoint five Democrats to the Citizen Panel that will be responsible for providing qualified electors to replace Rep. Teller.
“The ultimate appointment of someone who does not reflect the will of Apache County and LD7 voters would be an affront to our electoral process and set a dangerous precedent.
“With Republicans holding just a one-seat majority in the State House, this is not a time for games or bureaucratic gridlock. A reliable Democrat must fill Rep. Teller’s seat and local Democratic Party leaders should be the ones who identify that replacement on the Citizen Panel.”
