Phoenix Mayor Kate Gallego: It Was a Tough Year to Be a Parent Last Year, But Help is Here with Biden’s Child Tax Credit Expansion
PHOENIX –– Yesterday on Good Morning Arizona, Phoenix Mayor Kate Gallego raised awareness about the Biden-Harris administration’s new Child Tax Credit expansion that will begin delivering payments to families across Arizona next month.
As part of President Biden’s American Rescue Plan, the families of 1.5 million Arizona children will receive additional relief of up to $1,600 per child through the Child Tax Credit, lifting 112,000 children out of poverty statewide.
“Starting in under a month, many parents will see $250 per child over six or $300 direct deposited into your account. So we want to make sure people know that money is the Child Tax Credit expansion money,” said Mayor Gallego. “It was a tough year to be a parent last year, and this expansion of the tax credit is one of those pieces of good news that will make it easier. Kids are expensive, and we want to help you take care of your kids. This will come just as we are preparing for back to school, so if you have uniform expenses, have to buy a school box lunch or health care checks, this can really help.”
