McSally Is With Trump On “Terminat[ing] Health Care” Coverage Protections

PHOENIX — Despite the pandemic, Donald Trump yesterday insisted that Republicans will plow forward with their lawsuit to dismantle pre-existing condition coverage protections, saying, “We want to terminate health care under Obamacare.”

Don’t expect Martha McSally to speak out. She’s stood by Republicans’ health care lawsuit for more than a year, saying that it’s not her “role” to oppose the suit — even though 2.8 million Arizonans have a pre-existing condition.

If Republicans succeed in striking down the health care law, it would have devastating consequences for Arizonans, and:

  • end protections that prevent insurance companies from increasing prices on older Americans — creating what the AARP calls an “age tax”;

  • end coverage protections that prevent insurance companies from denying coverage to or jacking up prices on Arizonans who have a pre-existing condition;

  • end the requirement that insurance companies cover Essential Health Benefits like maternity and emergency care, as well as prescription drug coverage;

  • end the prohibition on insurance companies charging women more for coverage;

  • end the ban that prevents insurance companies from establishing lifetime and annual caps on how much they will cover; and

  • jeopardize Arizona’s AHCCCS expansion.
