McSally Again Sells Out Arizonans On Pre-Existing Condition Coverage Protections

McSally voted to defend an expansion of “junk” plans that let insurance companies get around coverage protections and charge older Americans more for coverage

PHOENIX — Yesterday, U.S. Sen. Martha McSally took an emphatic, thumbs-down vote to defend a Republican expansion of “junk” health insurance plans. According to the AARP, such plans let insurance companies charge older Americans more for coverage, deny coverage to people who have a pre-existing condition, and decline to cover Essential Health Benefits like maternity care and prescription drug coverage.

McSally’s Wednesday vote follows years of votes to gut pre-existing condition coverage protections and drive up premiums — a years-long record during which McSally has received hundreds of thousands of dollars in support from health care industry corporations who stand to profit from Arizonans losing coverage protections.
