Thanks To Trump, The Jobless Rate Is The Highest Since The Great Depression With Half A Million Jobless Claims in Arizona

PHOENIX – Today the country awoke to the news that the U.S. unemployment rate soared to 14.7% in April, the highest rate since the Great Depression. Arizona’s jobless claims have surpassed 500,000, with some estimates suggesting that the state’s unemployment rate is 16%.  This was avoidable.

Economy Built For Disaster:

Trump hotwired an economy that was highly vulnerable to a crisis and favored wealthy corporations over working families. Instead of helping struggling Americans, Trump gave tax cuts to billionaires and enacted an incoherent trade policy that wounded farmers.

Lackluster Response:

After squandering precious preparation time as the threat of the virus loomed, Trump’s delayed action provided economic relief that overwhelmingly benefitted big corporations without providing oversight or protections to ensure relief funds properly helped workers.

The Buck Stops With The President:

The facts don’t lie. The President failed to prepare us for this crisis. As a result, we now have the worst economy in a generation.

“The President is responsible for driving this country’s response to this catastrophe but he’s asleep at the wheel,” said Matt Grodsky Arizona Democratic Party spokesman, “Trump has treated the economy like Jenga and now it’s all fallen down due to his poor leadership. Arizonans know we need a Commander in Chief who will unite the country, keep us safe, and help us recover.
