PHOENIX – Yesterday Governor Ducey continued his pattern of providing empty words and no concrete steps regarding COVID-19. But most troubling of all, he failed to denounce the baseless theories driven by the far-right fringe of the GOP. Governor Ducey should focus on containing the COVID-19 pandemic and move forward from this election.
As highlighted by the Arizona Republic, Ducey can’t bring himself to call on his fellow Republican leaders to stop undermining Arizona’s election by promoting conspiracy theories for why Trump lost Arizona. None of the remaining legal challenges in Arizona raise the issue of fraud.
From Laurie Roberts, The Arizona Republic:
Gov. Doug Ducey on Wednesday demonstrated the sort of leadership we’ve come to expect of him.
He begged people to wear masks in public but he won’t require it.
He’s installing COVID-19 testing stations at airports, but he won’t mandate that visitors use them.
He called the escalating threats of violence against Secretary of State Katie Hobbs “unacceptable,” but he won’t denounce the debunked theories of fraud that are fueling the hysteria.
He won’t even call on his fellow Republican leaders to stop undermining Arizona’s election by pedaling baseless conspiracy theories for why President Trump lost Arizona. […] Ducey, however, just cannot bring himself to go there. The closest he came, after repeated questioning from reporters, was this: “Any widespread fraud or irregularity, that I have not seen. I have heard about it.”
