As Arizona reaches extreme heats, MAGA Republicans dodge questions about their extremism
July 12th, 2024
ARIZONA- As temperatures rise in Arizona, Republicans dodge questions from reporters and refuse to answer questions about their records. It’s Friday, so here’s a round-up (corral) of what our Arizona Republicans are up to:
- Rep. David Schweikert (AZ-01): did not return Q&A questions for AZCentral’s article on Congressional District 1 ahead of the July primary. Probably because after serving seven terms in congress, many are saying that Schweikert is “one of the GOP congressmen most vulnerable” because “GOP-led abortion restrictions and Trump’s presence on the ballot are widely expected to be a liability.”
- Rep. Juan Ciscomani (AZ-06): has yet to answer questions about his strong ties to the Christian Nationalist organization Patriot Academy, which opposes the separation of church and state, seeks to rewrite the Constitution, and denies climate change. Ciscomani’s membership in a climate change-denying Christian Nationalist organization comes on the heels of the IRA (legislation he’s opposed) creating 245 jobs in his district.
- Rep. Eli Crane (AZ-02): also did not not return Q&A questions for AZCentral’s article on Congressional District 2 ahead of the July primary. Crane did answer Steve Bannon’s questions during yet another “War Room” appearance this week.
- Rep. Andy Biggs (AZ-05): voted against the Inflation Reduction Act and called it a “monstrosity.” A new analysis from Climate Power shows that AZ-05 has seen the highest number of clean energy jobs and the largest dollar investment in clean energy thanks to the IRA.
- Rep. Paul Gosar (AZ-09): called the Supreme Court’s Immunity decision a “huge win for the Constitution,” writing in his tax-payer-funded newsletter that there is a “constant judicial witch hunt against Donald J. Trump.”
