Arizona Democratic Party’s Statement regarding the Supreme Court Protecting access to Mifepristone

June 13th, 2024
ARIZONA– Today, the Supreme Court rejected challenges to access to Mifepristone, a safe medical abortion pill, citing a lack of legal standing in the arguments about the drug’s harms.

“Today’s decision is a victory for reproductive rights that Arizona Republicans and Donald Trump worked hard to fight against,” said Arizona Democratic Party Chairwoman Yolanda Bejarano. “This is not the end of Republicans’ relentless attack on our freedoms, and Arizonans deserve better than to be bracing for impact every time reproductive or abortion rights are on the docket. To restore and permanently protect the right to an abortion in Arizona and nationwide, we must elect Democrats up and down the ballot this November.”

Last year, every single Congressional Republican, including David Schweikert and Juan Ciscomani, voted to place a nationwide restriction on abortion access by outlawing Mifepristone from being sold in retail pharmacies and by mail.

Arizona Democrats are prepared to fight for Arizonans abortion rights up and down the ballot. To learn more about key initiatives, how to vote or how to support Democrats this election cycle, please visit azdem.org.
