Arizona Democratic Party Statement on
US Passing 200,000 COVID Deaths

PHOENIX — Arizona Democratic Party Chair Felecia Rotellini released the following statement after the United States surpassed 200,000 deaths from the COVID-19 pandemic:

“As the U.S. surpasses another tragic milestone of 200,000 reported deaths, we remember those we’ve lost and grieve with their families.

Our sorrow is matched only by our outrage toward a President whose historic incompetence led us to this grim milestone. Donald Trump knew the coronavirus was deadly and highly transmissible — yet he downplayed it for his own political gain, leading to deaths that could have been prevented and an accompanying economic catastrophe that has cost so many working families and small business owners their livelihoods. To make matters worse, Trump continues his crusade to rip away health care protections from millions of Americans right when they need it the most. Trump’s lies to the American people, the muzzling of public health officials, and the political exploitation of a public health emergency are stunning acts of betrayal.

We have all been affected by the coronavirus. We deserve leaders who not only empathize with our loss and sacrifices, but also who will act responsibly and will do the hard work to put us on the path toward recovery. Joe Biden and Kamala Harris have proven they will lead with science, empathy, and common sense solutions to contain the pandemic and begin rebuilding an economy that works for everyone.”
