Ahead of Pence Visit, Arizona Veterans Speak Out Against Trump’s Broken Promises to Veterans, Service Members, and Military Families

U.S. Marine Corps Veteran Rick Romley: “I am a lifetime Republican. And let me make it very clear: I am not supporting Donald Trump. He is not fit to be Commander-in-Chief”

Romley: “I ask every veteran and everybody serving in the military today to ask themselves: Is that the person you want in the foxhole next to you? To have your back? Absolutely not”

U.S. Army Veteran and Goodyear resident Signa Oliver: “To have a Commander-in-Chief that has no respect and uses the United States military as props … It’s disgraceful and disgusting … It’s just the antithesis of everything that we stand for when we stand and take that oath and sign that blank check to serve our country.”

PHOENIX – Ahead of Mike Pence’s visit to Phoenix today, Arizona veterans held a press call to speak out against Donald Trump’s failure to stand up for the military and his long record of disparaging comments against America’s veterans, service members, and fallen soldiers. During the call, Fmr. Maricopa County Attorney and U.S. Marine Corps Veteran Rick Romley and U.S. Army Veteran and Goodyear resident Signa Oliver shined a light on how the Trump administration has failed veterans, service members, and military families.

Fmr. Maricopa County Attorney and U.S. Marine Corps Veteran Rick Romley: “I am a lifetime Republican. And let me make it very clear: I am not supporting Donald Trump. He is not fit to be Commander-in-Chief […] Trump indicated that those who died in the service of their nation, been wounded, or veterans are ‘losers’ or ‘suckers.’ […] For the president to sit here and say [they] are losers for serving this nation, as so many hundreds of thousands have done in years past? That is not a Commander-in-Chief. […] That’s absolutely outrageous. I ask our veterans and military today: How can anyone think that a person is a legitimate Commander-in-Chief that disparages Gold Star families? […] To disrespect Senator McCain, to say that he is no hero, he’s a loser […] That’s not a Commander-in-Chief. I ask every veteran and everybody serving in the military today to ask themselves: Is that the person you want in the foxhole next to you? To have your back? Absolutely not. […] I will never – I don’t care if it’s a Republican, a Democrat, an Independent — I will never support an individual who doesn’t have the empathy, the understanding, towards those who serve and give their lives for this country. They deserve better than that.”

U.S. Army Veteran and Goodyear resident Signa Oliver: “We signed a blank check one day that said we were willing to die for this country’s freedom […] To have a Commander-in-Chief that has no respect and uses the United States military as props — because that’s what he does. That’s the bottom line. We’re props to him. He doesn’t care how many of us die on his watch. He doesn’t care about anyone but himself and how he is received […] It’s disgraceful and disgusting his attacks on service members and their families, and then his upholding of people who have done atrocities while serving. It’s just the antithesis of everything that we stand for when we stand and take that oath and sign that blank check to serve our country. And right now, with him, his family, and Vice President Pence coming to Arizona to do damage control because his deeds, in his own words, are being released, I just don’t understand how he believes that’s going to get over on the majority of the people. […] [Trump] has never served anybody other than himself.”
