Ahead of Final Debate, Former McCain Staffer
Bettina Nava Calls Out Trump’s Attacks on the ACA
and Broken Promises on Health Care

Former State Director for Senator John McCain Bettina Nava: The newly released ‘60 Minutes’ footage “prove that the ACA is on the ballot In 2020”

Nava: “We can expect that the President will try to circumvent on the debate stage what we know: that he wants to eviscerate the Affordable Care Act”

PHOENIX — Former State Director for Senator John McCain Bettina Nava joined a press call ahead of the final presidential debate tonight to call out how Donald Trump’s attacks on the Affordable Care Act (ACA) and broken promises on health care have hurt Arizona’s working families. Earlier today, Trump released footage from a ’60 Minutes’ interview where he said he hopes the Supreme Court strikes down the ACA.

During the call, Nava outlined the stakes of this election and highlighted the devastating consequences of Trump’s failed leadership for every Arizona community — from his disastrous pandemic response which has crushed the economy and small businesses to his attempts to rip away health care coverage from millions of families.

Former State Director for Senator John McCain Bettina Nava: “Regarding the 60 Minutes tape that came out this morning — Trump has always tried to claim he is going to replace the Affordable Care Act. But the tapes that were released prove that the ACA is on the ballot in 2020. With such high unemployment and people under duress, we can expect that the President will try to circumvent on the debate stage what we know: that he wants to eviscerate the Affordable Care Act.”

  • “Now’s the time — instead of stoking division — to find a civil way to come together, respect diverse perspectives, and find solutions together. I’m confident a Biden-Harris ticket would do that. Donald Trump sadly does not embody any of that. His lack of leadership and efforts to intentionally aggravate and unilaterally govern through his ego, instead of respecting our democracy and Constitution — I will not be a part of as a Republican.”

Statement from the Arizona Democratic Party on tonight’s debate:

“Tonight, Donald Trump will offer the American public more empty rhetoric to distract from his failed presidency and attacks on the Affordable Care Act, but we already know the truth because he admitted it himself: Trump hopes the Supreme Court will wipe out the ACA and rip away health care from millions of Americans,” said Tyler Cherry, Arizona Democratic Party spokesperson. “Arizonans will be searching the stage tonight for a leader with commonsense solutions to our most pressing issues. Instead, Trump will offer more bluster and broken promises, but Arizonans won’t be fooled. Today’s debate will remind Arizona families that Trump has made things worse at every step of the way, from failing to contain the pandemic to trying to dismantle the Affordable Care Act. That’s why Arizona voters are already heading to the polls in record numbers to restore decency to the White House and hold Trump accountable for his attacks on their health care.”
