ADP Statement on the 56th Anniversary of Medicare and Medicaid
PHOENIX –– The following statement can be attributed to Raquel Terán, Chair of the Arizona Democratic Party.
“For more than five decades, Medicare and Medicaid have provided millions of Arizonans with the critical care, economic security, and peace of mind that they otherwise would go without. Thanks to these essential programs, our state is healthier and stronger with 1.3 million Arizona seniors covered through Medicare and over 2 million Arizonans covered through expanded Medicaid.
“Most recently, thanks to the tireless work of President Biden, Senator Kelly, Senator Sinema, and Democrats in Congress, the American Rescue Plan made health care coverage more affordable than ever before, ensuring that all working families have access to affordable medical care during an unprecedented public health crisis. Meanwhile, Republicans remain unrelenting in their assault on health care coverage and continue their efforts to privatize Medicare so that they can give more handouts to their wealthy donors and Big Pharma.
“At the end of the day, Democrats are committed to reducing costs and expanding coverage — and voters won’t forget that it’s Democrats that will continue defending, expanding, and improving Medicare and Medicaid.”
